Teaching fellows from the course Decision Science for Public Health, RDS 202, offered in Spring, 2025, joined CHDS faculty director Sue J. Goldie and senior research scientist Eve Wittenberg for a multimedia storytelling workshop particularly focused on visual teaching techniques. The workshop was supported by both the CHDS Media Hub and the Global Health Education and Learning Incubator (GHELI), leveraging their expertise in multimodal learning and pedagogy experimentation.

Characteristic of Dr. Goldie’s teaching style, the meeting opened with a warmup exercise to explain a simple concept using visual storytelling. Equipped with drawing and writing materials, attendees sketched and role-played as teacher/student to explain topic(s) of their choosing. Goldie and Wittenberg guided the session and provided constructive feedback.
Attendees then transitioned to a student-relevant task, creating a 60-second “elevator pitch” on their research. Using a studio-out-of-the-box multimedia station facilitated by the Media Hub team, attendees iteratively rehearsed and refined their pitch with mentorship provided by Goldie and Wittenberg.

At the bookend of the workshop, attendees shared reflections from the workshop and Goldie and Wittenberg offered professional development advice and anecdotes. Goldie and Wittenberg received enthusiastic feedback from participants and plan to extend the workshop series in the next academic year.
