Chhatwal Receives ISPOR Impact Award

CHDS congratulates CHDS faculty Jagpreet Chhatwal and colleague Rachael Fleurence for being honored with the inaugural Impact Award from The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research (ISPOR). The award recognizes health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) scientists for “making high-value healthcare more accessible, effective, efficient and affordable.”

Chhatwal and Fleurence received the award for their work to eliminate Hepatitis C in the United States. Their multi-year collaboration with multiple stakeholders led to modelling work that was used by the US Congressional Budget Office to develop their official budgetary score. The score was used by senators in drafting the Cure Hepatitis C Act of 2025 (S.1941) currently under consideration in the US Congress. The research also informed President Biden’s Hepatitis C Elimination Initiative and demonstrated both cost savings and reduction in complications from the disease. Chhatwal visited the White House in 2022 to discuss the national plan to eliminate Hepatitis C.
