Professor Siebert Recognized for Career Achievements

CHDS faculty Uwe Siebert has been chosen to receive the 2026 Career Achievement Award from the Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM) in recognition of his significant contributions to the field of medical decision making. Candidates for the award are nominated through an open call issued by SMDM and are reviewed and selected by the SMDM Awards Committee.

“I am deeply honored to receive this award and truly grateful for this special recognition,” said Siebert. “This award reflects not only my own work, but also the dedication and expertise of my entire team, as well as the support and inspiration I have received throughout my career from my students, colleagues, and mentors.”

Siebert is an Adjunct Professor of Health Policy and Management, and Epidemiology, at the Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health. He is also Professor of Public Health, Medical Decision Making, and Health Technology Assessment (HTA), and Head of the Institute of Public Health, Medical Decision Making and HTA at UMIT TIROL – University for Health Sciences and Technology in Austria. Moreover, he is an affiliate of the Institute for Technology Assessment at Massachusetts General Hospital, Harvard Medical School.

A physician by training, Siebert has built an internationally recognized career spanning methodological and applied research, policy engagement, professional service, and teaching. He has held numerous leadership and advisory roles in major professional societies, clinical guideline committees, HTA agencies, and government bodies—he currently serves as president of ISPOR – The Professional Society for Health Economics and Outcomes Research and is a past president of the Society for Medical Decision Making. Siebert has authored more than 500 publications and serves on the editorial boards of several leading scientific journals. Siebert is also a dedicated educator, teaching courses in decision analysis, technology assessment, benefit-harm assessment, economic evaluation, and causal inference from real-world data at the HTADS Program at UMIT TIROL and Decision Analysis in Clinical Research in the summer program at the Harvard Chan School.

The award will be presented at the SMDM 48th Annual Meeting held in Oslo, Norway in June, 2026.
