Jin-Tan Liu, a long-term visiting professor at CHDS, was recently awarded a National Chair Professorship by the Taiwan Ministry of Education. National Chair Professorships are awarded to full-time university professors who are engaged in research and teaching, play a leading role in shaping the direction of academic thought, and have a record of outstanding achievement. Winners of the award receive a cash prize of NT$1 million (US$32,452) a year for three years. Professor Liu is a distinguished professor of economics at National Taiwan University and a research associate of the (US) National Bureau of Economic Research. His research focuses on empirical issues in applied microeconomics, including health, environmental, and labor economics. He and Professor James Hammitt have together published 27 papers in economics journals over the past 20 years.
