CHDS at 2025 SMDM Meeting

Members of the CHDS community contributed to the 47th Annual Meeting of the Society of Medical Decision Making (SMDM), held in Ann Arbor, Michigan in June, 2025. The meeting theme was “Principled Practice: Integrating Ethics into Medical Decision Making.”

CHDS presentations included posters by doctoral students Jessica Preston Harvey, Andrea Luviano, Jenna Rogers, Ye Shen, Radhika Tampi, and Hanxuan (Astrid) Yu. Four were finalists for the Lee B. Lusted Student Prize:

  • Harvey: “My Chemical (Modeling) Romance: A Chemical Reactants Framework with Dynamic Efficiency”
  • Luviano: “How to HYT?”
  • Rogers: “Improved Long-Term Outcomes from Reduced Radiation Exposure in Pediatric Hodgkin Lymphoma Survivors: A Lifespan Perspective”
  • Yu: “Cost-Effectiveness of Subclinical Atrial Fibrillation Screening with Implantable Cardiac Monitor”

Luviano presents “How to HYT?”

Rogers received the Bruce Shackman Award for Outstanding Presentation in Health Services, Outcomes and Policy Research for her presentation. Luviano’s research was funded with a 2024 Raiffa award to identify the difference between a Markov and a microsimulation model in calculating the Health Years in Total (HTY).

In addition to the scientific presentations, CHDS faculty Uwe Siebert offered a short course on “Causal Diagrams, Target Trial Emulation and Causal Inference for Modeling and Medical Decision-Making” and CHDS faculty Ankur Pandya moderated a session on “Value-Based Decision Making.”
