CHDS faculty Jagpreet Chhatwal and colleagues, on behalf of the ISPOR Working Group on Generative AI, recently published an article in Value in Health that provides foundational knowledge and practical insights on the role of generative AI in health economics and outcomes research (HEOR).
The article, intended for HEOR and healthcare professionals, introduces basic concepts, techniques to use AI, and emerging applications of AI in HEOR; a glossary of key terms is also provided. The authors describe the technology’s potential to improve efficiency, accuracy, and productivity, while also emphasizing important limitations related to scientific accuracy and reproducibility, bias and fairness, and technical and operational integration. They also underscore that generative AI should be used to augment and not replace human expertise in the near term.
