Davene Wright, PhD, led a seminar entitled “Parents Just Don’t Understand: Strategies for Effectively Communicating Childhood Obese Risks.” The Seminar was given in partnership with the Center for Health Decision Science and the Harvard Prevention Research Center on Nutrition and Physical Activity. This talk discussed constructs that may prevent parents from engaging in childhood obesity prevention, including stigma, misperception, optimism, and limited health literacy. Also discussed was the introduction of potential risk communication approaches that can circumvent parent biases and encourage obesity-related behavior change.
