Joe Pliskin, Adjunct Professor in the Department of Health Policy and Management and Sidney Liswood Professor of Health Care Management at Ben-Gurion University of the Negev in Israel, visited CHDS in April 2017 to record video segments for the on-line introductory decision science course launched on spring 2017 (RDS 202). His “real-life” example of clinical decision making for hip replacement surgery served to illustrate the compelling applications of decision analysis for patient decision making. Joe also taped segments on decision psychology to augment decision analysis courses, including framing effects, the availability heuristic, and the Ellsberg paradox. Joe is an esteemed decision scientist who teaches in HPM and is the author of a forthcoming book on operations management.
