Doctoral student Ye Shen was awarded the inaugural Social Equity and Health Equity (SEHE) grant in Spring, 2025. Shen was selected as one of 28 Harvard University PhD students across all doctoral programs in social sciences. Her dissertation project aimed to estimate insurance dynamics during childhood in the fragmented U.S. health system. Her dissertation committee includes CHDS faculty Nicolas Menzies and Ankur Pandya, Catherine Hayes (Harvard Dental School), and Laura Hatfield (NORC, University of Chicago). The SEHE grant was awarded by Harvard Kennedy School’s Marcella Alsan, Angelopoulos Professor of Public Policy, and the Health Inequality Lab at the Malcolm Wiener Center for Social Policy.
Shen is a PhD candidate in Health Policy in the Decision Sciences track, and she is currently on the job market. With expertise in simulation modeling, decision analytics, and quasi-experimental causal inference methods, Shen is dedicated to improving decision making for health care, dental care, and public health in the United States and globally. Shen was a previous (Fall, 2024) recipient of the Harvard Graduate Society Merit/Term-time Fellowship to support her dissertation.
