Hadley Stevens Smith, a member of the Family Well-being Research Network’s (FAMNETs) Research Scholar Corps, is the inaugural recipient of the Society for Medical Decision Making’s (SMDMs) Sandy M. Schwartz Young Scholar Award for 2023. Smith is one of 12 Research Scholars supported by FAMNET to foster the pipeline of scholars working in the field of family well-being measurement.
Smith is recently appointed (2022) as Assistant Professor in the Department of Population Medicine (DPM) at Harvard Medical School and Harvard Pilgrim Health Care Institute. At DPM, she is a member of both the Center for Health Care Research in Pediatrics (CHeRP) and the Precision Medicine Translational Research Center (PROMoTeR). She is a health economist with additional training and expertise in the ethical, legal, and social implications (ELSI) of genomics. Smith’s research evaluates clinical, patient-centered, and economic outcomes of genomic medicine, primarily for newborn and pediatric patient populations. The goal of her research program is to inform decision making by clinicians, patients and families, and health care systems to establish efficient and ethical implementation of genomic technologies in clinical care.
