CHDS at 2023 North American SMDM Meeting

Members of the CHDS community contributed to the 45th North American Society for Medical Decision Making (SMDM) Meeting, held in Philadelphia in October, 2023. The theme was “Innovation in Decision Making: Thinking to Tools”. Newly elected Board members included CHDS faculty Ankur Pandya as Vice President and CHDS Researcher Emily Burger as Trustee.

Several CHDS members presented their work during the meeting, including doctoral students Yu Li (Lily) Hsieh and Karen Smith. Smith won the Milt Weinstein Award for Outstanding Presentation in Applied Health Economics for her poster presentation, “Impact of Real-World Measurement Error on the Cost-Effectiveness of Intensive Systolic Blood Pressure Targets”. Presentations were also given by masters students Yizhi (Diego) Liang, Janice Jhang, and Do Kyung Ryuk and CHDS faculty Jagpreet Chhatwal and Davene Wright, as well as post-doctoral fellows Melike Hazal Can, Emmanuelle Dankwa, Masahiko Haraguchi, Fayette Klaassen and Yunfei Li.

In addition to the scientific presentations, CHDS faculty Jagpreet Chhatwal and Uwe Siebert co-led a short course titled “Modeling Approaches for Analyzing Health Care Problems – an Introductory Overview and Comparison” with Beate Jahn and doctoral student Jacob Jameson led “Transparent Programming: Important Habits for Reproducibility and Research Integrity”. Milt Weinstein held one on one mentoring meetings to support early researchers.
