CHDS faculty Tom Gaziano chaired a “Heart Café” discussion hosted by the World Heart Federation (WHF) at the European Society of Cardiology annual scientific sessions in Amsterdam. The WHF Heart Café is a series of interactive discussions on key topics in the field of cardiovascular disease, noncommunicable diseases, and global health.
Gaziano’s discussion was titled “Advancing Understanding and Management of ATTR-CM Across the Globe.” The session focused on Transthyretin Amyloid Cardiomyopathy (ATTR-CM), a condition that may cause heart failure and often goes undiagnosed but can be treated. Presenters discussed the WHF’s consensus document on ATTR-CM, a source of information on multiple aspects of the disease: a patient with the condition and two global experts discussed the recommendations presented in the document with a focus on strategies to implement the recommendations at the national level, while other members of the panel explored approaches to raise awareness, improve screening and diagnostic protocols, and optimize treatment pathways for prompt intervention for affected individuals.
Gaziano serves as Chair of the Scientific Committee of the WHF.
